Digitise your handwriting without an iPad

You don't need a tablet for TypedHand. Print a template, fill it in with an ordinary pen and photograph it with your phone. After that you type, and the text comes out in your own handwriting.

A phone photographing the hand-filled TypedHand template on a desk β€” no tablet, no stylus.
The entire β€œhardware”: a sheet of paper and a phone camera.

How the paper path works

  1. A printed, still empty TypedHand template with its grid of boxes and four corner marks.

    Print the template

Download the template and print it on ordinary paper. One sheet is enough β€” the corner marks help line up the photo later.

  2. The same template filled in by hand with an ordinary pen, one letter per box.

Fill it in with your pen

Ballpoint, fineliner, fountain pen β€” whatever is on your desk. One character per box.

  3. A phone photographing the filled-in TypedHand template lying flat on a desk.

    Photograph it with your phone

Lay the sheet flat, shoot it in daylight, keep all four corner marks in frame.

  4. Live preview in the TypedHand editor: a typed sentence in the user's own handwriting.

Type β€” your handwriting shows up in the editor

From here you just type, and export the text as a PDF in your handwriting.

Have a tablet after all?

Then you can do it digitally: open the template in a note app like GoodNotes, write into it with your stylus and upload the exported file β€” iPad or Android, either works. Both are official ways to use TypedHand, with the same result.
